KwaZulu-Natal Police Commissioner Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi.
KwaZulu-Natal Premier Thami Ntuli says Lieutenant-General Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi‘s contract as the provincial police commissioner has been renewed.
Ntuli announced this at a crime imbizo in the Pietermaritzburg area.
He earlier expressed concern about a lack of clarity in the status of Mkhwanazi’s contract, as it was to expire at the end of this month.
Ntuli had met with the national police commissioner, Fannie Masemola, several times to discuss the matter. In accordance with the constitution, the national police commissioner appoints a provincial commissioner in concurrence with the provincial executive, represented by the premier.
Ntuli says, “On the issue of the contract renewal of Lt General Mkhwanazi, it has been renewed, the national commissioner has written to me, and I’ve also given concurrence officially now, so I don’t think there is an issue regarding that.”
