KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Commissioner Lieutenant-General Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi.
KwaZulu-Natal (KZN) Provincial Police Commissioner Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi has encouraged people who believe they are victims of the syndicate that is responsible for the death of Olorato Mongale to report their claims at police stations.
A woman who spoke to SABC News exclusively identified the owner of the flat where one of the suspects was killed in a shootout with police in Amanzimtoti recently, as her attacker.
She alleges that he is part of the syndicate and that she identified him through his voice.
Mkhwanazi cautioned victims to refrain from making these claims without speaking to police.
“Investigations are still ongoing, we’re warning communities to refrain from making claims without evidence or reporting to the police first. This could endanger the witnesses’ life. Whoever claims to be a victim of such a crime should report to the over 1 000 police stations in SA.”
Meanwhile, Mkhwanazi has responded to people recommending him for the National Police Commissioner position.
He says it is the President’s prerogative.
“This isn’t politics, you don’t get voted for into a position. You apply for it, they run background checks, you get trained and evaluated medically, then you go to college and rise through the ranks through your hard work. There’s only one position where a you can’t apply for which is the National Commissioner of Police. President Cyrl Ramaphosa is the only one who takes that decision. The position doesn’t get advertised.”
