The by-elections would have been the last ahead of the scheduled 27 October local government elections.
The uMkhonto weSizwe (MK) Party has won ward one in the Saldanha Bay municipal by-election in the Western Cape, according to the Electoral Commission of South Africa (IEC).
Provincial Electoral Officer Michael Hendrickse confirmed that eight parties contested the by-election in two voting districts in Diazville and Middelpos.
Hendrickse stated that MK Party candidate Mzwandile Biko secured 36.3% of the votes, followed by the African National Congress (ANC) with 26.7% and the Patriotic Alliance (PA) with 19.8%. The Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) placed fourth.
A voter turnout of 55% was recorded from the over 6 000 registered voters in the ward.
