The uMkhonto weSizwe (MK) Party has welcomed new members at a mini-rally at Marikana near Rustenburg in the North West.

The new members were welcomed by the party’s National Chairperson Nkosinathi Nhleko and National Organiser Joe Ndhlela.

Amongst them were former Rise Mzansi convenor in the province, Big Boy Moagi and former Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) members of the provincial legislature, Alfred Motsi and Thabo Sehloho.

Nhleko says they expected to welcome eight new members but they ended up with more members joining the party.

He says they welcomed 18 new members who were in leadership positions in their respective parties before.

Nhleko says, ”It’s quite interesting because we initially thought that we were welcoming about eight members, we ended up with more that came on board. So the bulk of people that are joining MK are people that are driven by a particular social consciousness. They were also active in other structures, African United Front (AUF) and EFF amongst others.”
