MK Party to march against the proposed VAT increase

The Umkhonto weSizwe Party in Gauteng will be marching against the proposed VAT increase at the Pretoria Church Square this morning.

The march follows a postponement of the national budget last month, which was set to be delivered by Finance Minister Enoch Godongwana.

Godongwana will now table the budget in Cape Town on Wednesday. This is after parties in the Government of National Unity (GNU) rejected a 2%  VAT increase, citing that it would have a negative impact on South Africans.

The City of Tshwane is expected to be a sea of green, black and yellow as MK Party members march to the South African Reserve Bank and National Treasury against a VAT increase.

MK Party says that today’s march is set to raise awareness of the devastating impact of the VAT increase on low-income households and small businesses.

The party says that the march will address issues that include the regressive nature of VAT and its unequal impact on the poor, the need for a more progressive taxation system and the effects of VAT on small businesses and entrepreneurs.
