Mitchell’s Pass fire contained

A fire that has been burning in the Mitchell’s Pass outside Ceres in the Boland has been contained.

The fire ignited in strong winds on Sunday above a toll house.

Cape Winelands District Municipality spokesperson Jo-Anne Otto says their teams will remain vigilant.

“Due to the predicted rain during the night, the last ground teams working the fire lines in the Koekedouw Dam area were able to stand down. However, teams will walk all the lines this morning to ensure that the rain was sufficient to extinguish any residual coals. Some areas may still require ground teams to continue with monitoring and mopping-up activities. No injuries, loss of life, or damage to property occurred.”
