Missing children toll increases as Limpopo floods persists

Two more children have been reported missing from Mashishimale village outside Phalaborwa in Limpopo. The two boys are suspected to have been swept away by an overflowing local river following recent floods.

Police and the emergency services personnel are still searching.

Mashishimale village is hardly accessible after a local bridge was also washed.

Ba-Phalaborwa Municipal Mayor Merriam Malatji is calling on the parents and guardians to monitor their children.

“We are appealing to parents because now they are busy searching those two children. We have not yet confirmed what actually happened, but we are appealing to all the parents to take care of the children. They must be extra vigilant because all our bridges have been washed away; all our rivers are overflowing so stay with your children. Those who are using pit toilets should make sure that when children go to the pit toilet, you accompany them for their safety,” says Malatji.
