President Cyril Ramaphosa with the King of the AmaZulu Nation, Misuzulu ka Zwelithini.
Land Reform and Rural Development Minister Mzwanele Nyontsho says he will engage the AmaZulu King Misuzulu kaZwelithini, to discuss his attempts to dismiss some members of the Ingonyama Trust Board.
Nyontsho says the King acted beyond his powers by suspending members of the Board, asserting that such authority rests solely with the Minister.
Nyontsho says due process should be followed in the suspension of Board members.
“We still wish that we talk to the King, but after, we also respect the fact that he’s in seclusion until the 15th of January. We’re hoping that after the 15th of January, we will also talk to him and then say we are still looking at these things.”
“If there are compelling circumstances that the Board must be dissolved, we will dissolve the Board. But if we dissolve the Board, we must have followed all the processes, so that we close all the gaps and we don’t find ourselves in and out of court,” adds Nyontsho.
