Minister Schreiber assesses Beitbridge ahead of busy Easter weekend

Home Affairs Minister Dr Leon Schreiber is conducting a ministerial oversight visit at the Beitbridge port-of-entry in Musina, Limpopo, to assess its readiness for the upcoming Easter weekend.

Schreiber is accompanied by the Commissioner of the Border Management Authority (BMA) Dr Michael Masiapato.

The oversight aims to assess operational readiness and personnel deployment amongst others. The border port is the gateway to most southern African countries.

BMA assistant commissioner Dr Nkhuliseni Luvhengo says they’re readying themselves for the busy holidays.

“As you may recall, we have been using drones to address the issue of illegal travelers, and we have also been employing body-worn cameras. In addition to this equipment, we have partnered with a company called DCD Protective Mobility. This company will assist us by deploying their armoured vehicles, which we will use to patrol the border, an area that has been presenting challenges,” says Dr. Luvhengo.

Dr. Luvhengo one of their vehicles is even capable of operating in water, which has been particularly helpful to their efforts.
