The Minister of Justice and Constitutional Development Mmamoloko Kubayi has approved the NPA’s request for the holding of a joint inquest into the deaths of Sipho Samuel Hashe, Qaqawuli Godolozi and Twasile Champion Galela, who were known as the PEBCO three.
Eastern Cape NPA regional spokesperson Luxolo Tyali says the three were leaders of the Port Elizabeth Black Civic Organization, which was affiliated to the United Democratic front.
Tyali says they left to meet a prospective donor and were murdered in 1985.
“At the height of the civil resistance against apartheid, they were led into believing that they were to meet a donor at the airport, but they were to be seen again.
We hope that the holding of the inquest will provide the much-needed closure to the families and the community at large.”
