The Minister of Mineral and Petroleum Resources Gwede Mantashe has labelled the Digital Hub as the future of the mining town of Welkom.
Minister Gwede Mantashe says the Hub is a step towards changing the lives of Welkom people beyond mining.
The Mineworkers Development Agency (MDA) in partnership with Sibanye-Stillwater and Rand Mutual Assurance (RMA) officially launched the Digital Hub at Welkom in the Free State.
The initiative is said to equip the youth and women from mining towns with future-fit digital skills, creating sustainable jobs and small businesses across the mining industry.
Mantashe also advised mines to make contributions that will improve communities they operate in.
