2024 SA Top Achievers
Basic Education Minister Siviwe Gwarube has honoured South Africa’s Top 39 Matric achievers at a special event in Fairlands, Johannesburg, on Monday.
The 2024 top performers, representing all corners of the country, were celebrated for their exceptional achievements.
Gauteng’s top learner, Malwandle Baloyi from New Hope School in Pretoria, shares how she prioritised her studies during her matric year. She credits her success to her supportive siblings, who reassure her that whatever happens, they will be proud of her.
Top performer in Quintile 2, Maselesele Lalamani, says she told her father when she got the news that she was a top performer. “He was just happy and started organising everything for me.”
Lalamani says she wants to study astronomy at the University of Cape Town (UCT).
Quintile 3 top learner Sbusiso Buthelezi of Zimele High School in KwaZulu-Natal says words can’t fully express how he feels, but he is super happy.
Buthelezi shares advice with the 2025 matric learners “Treat it as a marathon, put in the work early and it will show in the results.”
He says he wants to further his studies by doing actuarial sciences at the University of Cape Town.
The official results will be announced live on SABC News tonight at 18h00.
