❌Failure to meet safety standards… pic.twitter.com/28sAUQNW5N— Executive Mayor Peter Teixeira (@PeterTeixeiraEM) December 11, 2025
During the operation the municipality says it discovered shops selling expired food. Midvaal Municipality Mayor Peter Teixeira says they also discovered some premises selling drugs.
“We uncovered several serious contraventions that pose significant risks to the public health and safety including unhygienic operating conditions in direct violations of health standards. Lack of fire extinguishers and inadequate fire safety measures. Expired food products sold to customers, people living and sleeping inside business premises. Shops operating in buildings not approved by the municipality. As a result, several contravention notices were issued and multiple shops were closed for non-compliance.”
