One of the five accused in the Senzo Meyiwa murder trial will now consult his family on who should represent him following the death of his lawyer.
Muzi Sibiya’s lawyer, Adv. Thulani Mngomezulu died in hospital yesterday.
Mngomezulu has not been present in court for weeks now.
Sibiya and four others are accused of the 2014 murder of the soccer star in Vosloorus, east of Johannesburg.
The state and the defence lawyers in the trial expressed their deep felt condolences following Mngomezulu’s death.
Sibiya has been afforded the opportunity to contact his family to establish who will now represent him henceforth.
Sibiya has told the court that his family has been feeling the financial strain of paying for a lawyer.
However, the judge has advised that the legal aid board is prepared to handle the proceedings going forward.
