The attorney representing Andiswa Mengo, the woman who claimed sexual harassment against Eastern Cape Judge Selby Mbenenge, says her client is disappointed by the outcomes of the Judicial Conduct Tribunal.
The tribunal cleared Judge Mbenenge of gross misconduct but found him guilty of misconduct.
Mengo’s attorney Chriscy Blouws from the Women’s Legal Centre says, “She hoped that the process would have considered the lived experiences of women who experience and survive sexual harassment and discrimination, especially those who work in the court space. Instead, what the tribunal has done in its outcome, it has created a separate process and standard that judges are being held to that would not be accepted in any other workplace.”
