Members of Parliament rally behind Bafana as they head to Morocco


As Bafana Bafana prepare to take to the continental stage at the Africa Cup of Nations, in Morocco, Members of Parliament across the political divide rallied behind the national team, sending messages of unity, pride and encouragement.

Chairperson of Parliament’s Sports Portfolio Committee, Joe McGluwa, delivered a message of encouragement, urging the team to play with heart and make the country proud.


McGluwa says Bafana Bafana are the pride of South Africa.

“We would like to say a word of encouragement and support to Bafana Bafana for Afcon. You are the pride of South Africa. Go out there play your heart out and (make) South Africa proud. Go and show Africa what South Africa is made of,” he says.

The Patriotic Alliance says the players have the unwavering support of South Africans as they step onto the Afcon stage.

The EFF says the Afcon goes beyond football, describing the tournament as a symbol of unity, resilience and African pride.

EFF MP, Eugene Mthethwa, says, “We would like to extend our unwavering support the national football team, Bafana Bafana, as they proudly represent our nation at the Africa Cup of Nations. We actually recognise the significance of this platform, not only as a celebration of sporting excellence, but as a powerful symbol of unity, resilience and African pride.”

With Parliament united behind them, Bafana Bafana head into Afcon carrying the hopes of a nation, backed by South Africans every step of the way as they chase continental glory.
