Members free to choose between ANC, SACP in LGE: Mantashe

African National Congress (ANC) Chairperson Gwede Mantashe has made it clear that the party’s members are free to make a choice between the ANC and its ally, the South African Communist Part (SACP) in next year’s elections.

He was speaking on the sidelines of the party’s National General Council (NGC) in Boksburg on the East Rand.

Mantashe acknowledged the fact that ANC members often hold dual membership.

The SACP says it remains steadfast in its decision to contest the Local Government Elections next year separately from the ANC.

Mantashe says members have a choice.

He says, “There is dual membership, every individual will take a decision not the ANC NEC, not the NEC, it is my decision what do I want to do with my membership. I am a member of both parties and I will have to decide what party I campaign for.”
