It was another difficult session for Team South Africa at the FINA World Short Course Championships in Budapest, Hungary on Thursday.

Only Rebecca Meder and Ruard Van Reenen managed to qualify for their respective semi-finals. Meder will be hoping for a medal in the women’s 100m breaststroke final Thursday evening.

Rebecca Meder is arguably one of the best performers for Team South Africa thus far. She did it again in the Women’s 100m Individual Medley event.

She finished third in 58-point-four-four seconds to qualify fifth fastest overall for the semifinals.

Ruard Van Reenen is another South African who has impressed in these championships. He qualified for the men’s 50m backstroke semifinals despite finishing fourth in his race.

He clocked 23-point-two-nine seconds to qualify 11th fastest.

SA’s most decorated swimmer Chad Le Clos failed to reach the final of the men’s 200-metre butterfly event despite finishing second in his heat.

The veteran swimmer clocked one minute, 51-point-eight-nine seconds to finish 10th overall out of 44 swimmers.

Le Clos is fast running out of events in his attempt to reach a record-equalling 23 individual medals at short-course world championships.
