Northern Cape MEC of Transport Safety and Liaison Bentley Vass says the department is working closely with the Hawks and Public Service Commission (PSC) to ensure that acts of corruption and lawlessness are uprooted in the department.
Vass was giving a keynote address at the welcoming of new traffic recruits in Kimberley.
In August last year, some officials were arrested for alleged fraud and corruption.
MEC Vass says those who are involved in such acts, will be dealt with accordingly.
“We are taking a zero-tolerance approach regarding the issue of corruption. That is why you will see that we have suspended some of the officials and we are busy dealing with disciplinary cases based on the report we have received from the Public Protector, the Public Service Commissioner and the Hawks are currently busy working with us, investigating all these cases. So, from our side, we will make sure that we are not going to tolerate lawlessness. We are going to act and make sure that we keep officials accountable.”
