Mpumalanga Education MEC Lindi Masina
Mpumalanga Education MEC Lindi Masina is expected to lead a delegation on a visit to the LD Moetanalo Secondary School in the Steve Tshwete Municipality on Wednesday.
This follows an incident in which a Grade 11 learner was fatally stabbed during an altercation with another learner on the school premises.
The suspect fled the scene of the stabbing. Mpumalanga police are investigating a murder case.
Provincial Education Department spokesperson Gerald Sambo says psychosocial support will be provided to the learners and staff at the school.
“The Department condemns this incident in the strongest possible terms. Acts of violence within school premises pose a serious threat to the safety and well-being of learners, educators, and non-teaching staff, and undermine the constitutional right to education.”
