KwaZulu-Natal MEC for Transport Siboniso Duma at the scene of the horrific accident
KwaZulu-Natal MEC for Transport Siboniso Duma says the owners, together with both drivers of the truck and the taxi involved in a crash south of Durban, should be charged with murder.
The crash claimed the lives of 11 people, including a 13-year-old learner at Lotus Park in Isipingo Thursday morning.
The taxi driver and several other passengers sustained critical injuries.
Speaking while visiting the crash scene, Duma said preliminary reports reveal that the truck was unroadworthy whilst the taxi was overloaded.
“We can witness that the truck and its tyres had been worn out both back and front but the RTMC is going to deal with that. That is why even the truck driver was accompanied by SAPS to ensure that the owner does the same. The taxi was also overloaded instead of 15 passengers it had 17 or 18 which is something that is not warranted. We are also looking for the PDP for both drivers, and that is something that we must be stricter when it comes to those things.”
