Eastern Cape MEC for Community Safety Xolile Nqatha has praised the police following the fatal shooting of two cash-in-transit (CIT) robbery suspects on the N2 near Tsolo.
According to police spokesperson Siphokazi Mawisa, the suspects were allegedly en route to commit CIT robberies in the Eastern Cape, using a vehicle linked to similar incidents in KwaZulu-Natal.
Mawisa reported that when officers attempted to intercept the vehicle, the suspects opened fire, prompting police to respond.
Both suspects were killed on the scene, and two unlicensed firearms were recovered.
MEC Nqatha’s spokesperson Makhaya Komisa says, “MEC Nqatha commends the police for their prompt response in dealing with these brazen criminals. The MEC says this is further proof that no one will commit these heinous crimes and not be apprehended or dealt with decisively when they challenge our security personnel.”
