McKenzie rejects SAHRC prima facie hate speech finding

Patriotic Alliance leader Gayton McKenzie has rejected the South Africa Human Rights Commission’s (SAHRC) finding of prima facie hate speech against him. He is describing it as defamatory.

The old comments McKenzie made on social media, using the profoundly offensive ‘K’ word to refer to black people, has created a political storm.

The commission wants him to delete the offensive posts and issue a public apology, among other demands.

Outrage over Gayton McKenzie’s utterances:

Following a complaint lodged by ActionSA, the Human Rights Commission last week announced it had found prima facie evidence of hate speech against McKenzie.

McKenzie has now broken his silence, accusing the commission of being politicised.

He argues the SAHRC engaged the media prematurely and failed to follow due process by not hearing his side.

McKenzie says if the matter goes to court, he is ready to defend himself.
