Eulogy by the Minister of Police, Mr Senzo Mchunu, at the Official Funeral of Constable Boipelo Senoge on 8 May 2025, Bloemfontein.
Police Minister Senzo Mchunu has appealed to South African Police Service (SAPS) members not to leave the service, despite the challenges they face in the line of duty.
Mchunu made the remarks during the funeral service of Constable Boipelo Senoge, one of three officers whose bodies were recently recovered from the Hennops River in Centurion, Pretoria.
The constables had been missing for more than five days. Senoge was laid to rest in Bloemfontein today, while Constables Cebekhulu Linda and Keamogetswe Buys will be buried on Friday and Saturday respectively.
“Stay in the service, it is the right thing to do. We understand the challenges, the difficulties, but it is the right thing to do,” said Mchunu.
He acknowledged the ongoing risks police officers face, noting that the SAPS regularly deals with the loss of its members through natural causes, resignation or other circumstances.
“Now we know SAPS members are always facing threats and as a family of SAPS we are always faced with this threat of losing officers, whether it’s through natural death, resignation or unforeseen circumstances. And therefore there is no doubt that each one of us, with the loss of three members at the same time, we really feel this very profound loss,” Mchunu said.
