Police Minister Senzo Mchunu is officiating the passing out parade of more than 2 000 newly trained police officers at the South African Police Service (SAPS) Academy in Pretoria.

The new officers will be deployed to various police stations across the country, especially during the festive season when there’s a rise in the crime rate.

Another ceremony is taking place in Bishop Lavis on the Cape Flats where Deputy Police Minister Cassel Mathale will officiate at a ceremony to deploy police Constables.

The officers participated in the Basic Police Development Learning Programme which started in April.

National Head of Corporate Communication and Liaison, Nonkululeko Phokane, says the pass-out parades are happening in other parts of the country.

“The passing out parades will take place simultaneously at SAPS academies in Tshwane, Bishop Lavis, Graaf-Reinet and Ulundi. The Minister of Police will officiate the largest passing out parade of 2 066 graduates, while Deputy Minister (Cassel) Mathale officiates in the Western Cape and Deputy Minister (Shela) Boshielo officiates in KwaZulu-Natal.”
