Mchunu is not implicated in Madlanga Commission’s report: Presidency

The Presidency has confirmed that Police Minister Senzo Mchunu has not been implicated in the Madlanga Commission’s interim report.

Several witnesses who have testified before the commission have implicated Mchunu in wrongdoing.

Mchunu, who has been placed on special leave, has admitted to disbanding the KwaZulu-Natal Political Killings Task Team (PKTT) without consulting National Police Commissioner Fannie Masemola.

Mchunu is accused of being associated with alleged criminal cartel kingpin Vusimuzi “Cat” Matlala.

The commission’s report has not been made public due to its interim status and the need for more evidence to be heard.

The final report, however, will be made public.

Presidential spokesperson Vincent Magwenya says, “In summary, the report does refer to the evidence that the Minister has led at the Commission, as well as what has been the allegations against the Minister. The Minister is still going to go back to the Commission and answer to more allegations against him, including the ones that have recently surfaced. The President wants him to go back and answer to all of the allegations before he can consider his next steps in regard to the minister specifically. So that matter will be concluded at an appropriate time.”
