Mchunu admits he had no detailed plan when disbanding PKTT

Police Minister Senzo Mchunu has admitted that he did not work out any detailed plan when he ordered the immediate disbandment of the Political Killings Task Team (PKTT).

Mchunu is under cross-examination at the Madlanga Commission of Inquiry in Pretoria.

He disbanded the task team in December last year.

Mchunu says, “So I didn’t necessarily work out any detail at the time when I wrote the letter beyond the time of those engagements. I had in mind engagements going forward.”

He says the aim of his disbandment of the Political Killings Task Team was to incorporate it into broader murder and robbery units.

Incorporating a specialised task team into broader, permanent units requires a structured transition for which he earlier said he had no detailed plan.

A structured transition relates to focusing on case handover protocols, personnel integration, and administrative alignment to avoid disruption of ongoing investigations and maintain efficiency.
