Matlala, Senona relationship expected to be scrutinised further

KwaZulu-Natal Hawks head Major-General Lesetja Senona will continue testifying at the Madlanga Commission of inquiry on Wednesday morning.

His close relationship with attempted murder accused, Vusimuzi ‘Cat’ Matlala, will remain a focus.

On Tuesday, General Senona testified that he enjoyed a brotherly relationship with Matlala since 2019.

The KwaZulu-Natal Hawks head has also testified about a meeting between Matlala and the Provincial Police Commissioner, Lieutenant General Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi, that took place in Umhlanga in Durban last year.

General Senona testified that the meeting between Matlala and General Mkhwanazi was in relation to the purchase orders of the SAPS contract.

He further defended his decision to accompany Matlala to the meeting.

Senona says he saw nothing wrong in accompanying ‘his younger brother’, as he was not a full participant in the discussions.

The KwaZulu-Natal Hawks head has been accused of leaking sensitive information to Matlala and using his position to benefit members of the Big Five cartel.
