Fed up residents protest poor service delivery, dilapidated infrastructure and incomplete projects as just some of the ills in Matjhabeng Municipality.
A group of residents in the Matjhabeng local municipality, Free State, are picketing outside the municipality’s headquarters in Welkom.
Leader of Matjhabeng Concerned Residents, Paballo Nhlapo says they are demonstrating to highlight poor service delivery, dilapidated infrastructure and unfinished projects in the municipality.
Police have been deployed to monitor the situation outside the Matjhabeng municipal building. This, while a group of residents continues to picket. They claim councillors are demanding sexual favours in exchange for employing women.
They are also alleging that Matjhabeng municipality is appointing outside companies when tenders are allocated, instead of locals.
Aggrieved residents say these issues affect residents in the municipality’s six towns.
