Matjhabeng Municipality launches investigation into alleged EPWP corruption

Matjhabeng Municipality says it has launched an investigation into the alleged corruption on the Expanded Public Works Programme (EPWP).

The investigation will take place over a period of 14 days.

Executive Mayor of the Municipality Thanduxolo Khalipha commits that workers in the programme will receive their July salaries and that they will know their fate after the investigations have concluded.

The program was halted following reports that politically connected individuals in the municipality are receiving inflated salaries through the programme.

Khalipha indicates that things will come to light as soon as the investigation comes to an end.

Khalipha adds, “We commit ourselves and we are happy that the minister has taken a decision that there must be an investigation and we welcome that. However, where we are not quite happy, if for the minister just to make that decision to suspend this programme. As the process of workers receiving their income has begun, we can commit to our people that they will receive their salaries for July and that they don’t need to panic.”
