Matipandile Sotheni appears at the Brakpan Magistrate’s Court in the East Rand on March 25, 2026.
The lawyer who was representing Matipandile Sotheni, the man accused of killing Marius Van Der Merwe, who as known as “Witness D” at the Madlanga Commission has indicated that he has written to the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) to withdraw from representing Sotheni.
During Sotheni’s last appearance, he said that he didn’t know Attorney Eric Bryer and never gave him instructions.
Last week, the former Special Task Force officer appeared briefly at the Brakpan Magistrate’s Court.
Sotheni faces charges of murder, attempted murder, conspiracy to commit murder, and unlawful possession of a firearm and ammunition.
Bryer would need to officially withdraw during the next court appearance on 14 May, but there could possibly be an earlier appearance for bail.
