Mathunjwa says SA needs political reset

President of trade union, AMCU, Joseph Mathunjwa says South Africa needs a political reset.

He was speaking at a gathering to mark the 13th anniversary of the massacre in Marikana near Rustenburg, in the North West.

Mathunjwa says the country only needs two political parties instead of the more than 600 registered ones.

“South Africans are confused by the chaotic political system where the political elites are more concerned with self-preservation than the interests of the people of the country. South Africans how do you expect 609 political parties to agree on a single political agenda. This country requires a political reset. We need a two-party state. If we can reduce these political parties to a two-party state we can save and we can be able to save the people of South Africa,” he says.

Mathunjwa has accused some mining companies of funding political parties represented in Parliament, saying that’s why the House is failing to amend some labour laws.

“When we demand the amendments of the mine and health safety act, this Parliament cannot amend it. That’s why when AMCU demands the amendments of the labour relations act, this Parliament cannot amend it. The reason is simple, these mining houses are the ones who are funding these political parties, in Cape Town. How can they fight, how can they bite the hand that feeds them,?” he adds
