Deputy President Paul Mashatile visits the Assemblies of God in Thaba Nchu in the Free State on April 18, 2025.
Re-elected African National Congress (ANC) Northern Cape Chairperson Zamani Saul says the matter of the alleged shooting of Deputy President Paul Mashatile’s vehicle will deepen divisions within the party ahead of the 2027 elective conference.
Saul was speaking during the first day of the party’s elective conference in Kimberley yesterday.
He made the remarks before the police confirmed in a statement the alleged shooting incident of the Deputy President’s convoy.
Saul says, “Who can in his right mind go out and want to kill the Deputy President of the ANC for a 40% party? Deputy Presidents were not killed when we were having 70%, and we come to believe those things because of the level of divisions within our ranks.”- Reporting by Samkele Maseko and Margaret Mothibi.
