National Police Commissioner General Fannie Masemola.
National Police Commissioner General Fannie Masemola says he will study the report into the acquittal of Deputy President Paul Mashatile’s VIP Presidential Protection Unit (PPU).
It has emerged that the eight officers have been cleared by an internal police disciplinary process.
However, their court case continues and are out on bail of R10 000 each.
The eight face several charges including assault, malicious damage to property and pointing of a firearm.
This was after a video surfaced of them allegedly assaulting civilians on the N1 highway in Johannesburg in 2023.
They have since returned to work.
Masemola says he will give an update after studying the report in which they were acquitted.
“I heard of that only yesterday. Together the legal service and I will study that report of the presiding officer and we will then update the nation in terms of what we find and what is the way forward,” adds Masemola.
