National Police Commissioner General Fannie Masemola says more suspects have been identified in connection with the murder of Marius van der Merwe also known as ‘Witness D’ at the Madlanga Commission.
Van der Merwe was gunned down outside his Brakpan home, in Ekurhuleni, earlier this month.
He testified before the commission, where he implicated suspended Ekurhuleni Metro Police Deputy Chief, Julius Mkhwanazi in criminal activity.
Masemola spoke to the media during an oversight visit to the ongoing Safer Festive Season operations in Pretoria on Friday afternoon.
“The investigation is still ongoing; there are more suspects that have been identified. It turns out to be quite a complicated case, because it’s a case not solely only on the murder of Van der Merwe, it links with other cases. So, we are are working through it, we don’t want to arrest and investigate. We want to investigate and arrest.”
