Marumo Gallants climb up to 10th spot on the log after beating Chippa

Marumo Gallants have moved up to 10th on the Betway Premiership log after beating Chippa United 2-1 at home in Bloemfontein.

Chippa remain rooted to the bottom of the table with just one win from their 10 matches played do far this season.

Marumo Gallants started their PSL campaign with victories over Richards Bay and Orlando Pirates.

But it’s been a struggle since.

After two weeks of international football, Gallants who suffered a 1-0 defeat to neighbours Siwelele in their last PSL match, came well prepared.

They created numerous opportunities from the get go, but Chippa’s shot stopper Stanley Nwabali stood firm.

The visitors absorbed the initial pressure, found their feet and started playing attacking football.

But the two teams went into the break goalless.

Sekela Sithole eventually broke the deadlock when he scored for Bahlabane Ba Ntwa 10 minutes into the second half.

Cameroonian Bienvenu Eva Nga of Chippa United netted the equalizer just few minutes before the end of the game.

But Gallants sealed a 2-1 victory from a set piece in stoppage time.

The Bloemfontein-based side now shift their attention to the Carling Knockout Cup quarterfinals, where they’ll play Stellenbosch FC at the end of the month.
