Civic organisation March and March has vowed to intensify its protests against crimes, including dealing in drugs in Durban, KwaZulu-Natal.
On Friday, the movement took to the streets to demand urgent action against organised crime, corrupt police officers and drug dealers in the area.
The organisation submitted a memorandum to officials at the Point police station.
Founder of the organisation Jacinta Ngobese-Zuma says they had a point to prove to foreign national engaged in illegal activities.
“It’s worse actually. You realize how bad it is when we are the ones that are getting threatened for coming to Point Road and we have people who are foreigners telling us we dare you to come and that’s exactly why we came here today because they told us we shouldn’t come anywhere near them. They said we can march, but shouldn’t come their direction. So, we wanted to prove a point that in South Africa we will not be told by people who are not South Africans that we must have no-go areas and the worst part about these no-go areas is that they’ve now become places where they are comfortable in doing their illegal activities.”
