Mantashe returns to Ekapa Mine where five workers remain trapped

Mineral and Petroleum Resources Minister Gwede Mantashe will return to the Ekapa Mine on Friday, where five miners are still trapped after a mud rush incident.

Mantashe’s follow-up visit comes after the diamond mine, which is Kimberley in the Northern Cape, announced its decision to apply for liquidation.

Over 1 000 miners have lost their jobs and have not been paid their February salaries.

Meanwhile, the mine says efforts to retrieve the bodies of the five miners are continuing following the incident which happened earlier this month.
