Police have launched a manhunt for suspects who shot and killed one of the Madlanga Commission of Inquiry’s key witnesses.
‘Witness D’, who police have identified as 41-year-old Marius van der Merwe, was killed in front of his family outside their house in Brakpan, in the east of Johannesburg, on Friday evening.
He had detailed allegations of a murder cover-up implicating suspended Ekurhuleni Metro Police Department deputy chief Julius Mkhwanazi.
Gauteng Deputy Police Commissioner Fred Kekana visited the scene of Van der Merwe’s killing.
“We had an idea of what’s going on, but we need the suspect who killed. No one has the right to take the life of anyone for whatever reason, and that will not be left to die without being unravelled and exposed. And will deal we are going to ensure that everything that is linked to his death starting with the death of that person and his involvement we will deal with it thoroughly.”
