Mangaung residents call on metro to restore water

The Mangaung Metro in the Free State says it’s prioritising the provision of water to hospitals. This follows a three-day water cut due to routine maintenance.

The metro says it issued a warning prior to the planned water shutdown, which has been prolonged due to repairs.

Affected areas include Fitchard Park, Fauna, Pellissier, Batho and Rocklands.

Residents of Mangaung Metro in the Free State have called on the municipality to restore water provision. They say they cannot even prepare well for the funerals and other occasions they have this weekend.

They add that they have been struggling to cook, clean and get their children ready for school.

“This thing of not having water is too much seriously. These people have to start taking us seriously, because now people need water everywhere. Whatever you are doing inside the house you need water. We need to cook we need water seriously this problem needs to be solved,” says one of the residents.

“I have something on Saturday at my house. I don’t have water. I must go to a place where there is water. The people and mothers are tired from going up and down with 25 litres looking for water. They are tired now,” complains another resident.

The Mangaung Metro says maintenance was prolonged due to repairs. It adds that relief has been provided in the form of water tankers.
