The Nelson Mandela Foundation says the turnout at Sunday’s remembrance walk embodies the spirit of the late former statesman which is unity.
Thousands participated in the race at the Union Buildings for the annual Nelson Mandela Remembrance Walk and Run, celebrating Madiba’s legacy of unity and hope. The race was preceded by a wreath-laying ceremony.

The 5th of December marked the 12th anniversary of the passing of former President Nelson Mandela. Nelson Mandela Foundation CEO Dr. Mbongiseni Buthelezi says it’s important to celebrate the legacy.
“The City of Tshwane, the Gauteng Dep of Arts, Sports and Culture as well as all the sponsors came together and we had a wonderful event this year. We want to continue with that spirit of togetherness from all walks of life, celebrating Madiba’s legacy and all his teachings that still live on.”
Today, over 10 000 South Africans came together in a powerful display of unity as the 21KM, 10KM and 5KM Mandela Remembrance Walk & Run set off.
