Man killed, 12 year-old wounded in suspected gang shooting in Delft

A 43-year-old man has been shot dead and a 12-year-old boy wounded in a suspected gang-related shooting in Leiden in Delft, on the Cape Flats.

Police spokesperson Wesley Twigg says that the victims had reportedly been sitting outside a house when unknown suspects approached and opened fire, on Friday.

He says that the suspects fled the scene. Twigg says that the man succumbed to his injuries at the scene and the wounded boy has been taken to a medical facility.

The incident took place shortly before South African Defence Force (SANDF) soldiers and police descended on the area as part of Operation Prosper.

National Police Commissioner, Fannie Masemola said 13-month long deployment will see over 2 000 SANDF members deployed to crime hotspots across the country, including in Gauteng, Free State, North West, Western Cape and the Eastern Cape.
