Man gunned down in Mitchells Plain during shooting incident

A 32-year-old man has been gunned down at Mitchells Plain on the Cape Flats.

Police spokesperson Malcolm Pojie says the victim and a friend were on their way to a shop when two men approached them and one opened fire.

He says the victim succumbed to gunshot wounds to the head.

Pojie says the incident may be gang-related.

No arrests have been made yet.

Meanwhile, an intense flare-up of gang activity in recent weeks resulted in the killing of several people in the area, prompting authorities to intervene.

Last month, organisations that work on the ground in the township, including community policing forums and neighbourhood watches, gathered to thrash out the Mitchells Plain Safety and Development plan, spearheaded by the Western Cape government.
