Former ANC Youth League Secretary General Sindiso Magaqa.
One of the men charged with the murder of former African National Congress Youth League (ANCYL) Secretary-General Sindiso Magaqa has confessed to the murder.
Sibusiso Ncengwa made his confession before the Pietermaritzburg High Court.
Magaqa was shot in July 2017 in uMzimkhulu and succumbed to his injuries in hospital.
Ngcengwa also admitted to the attempted murder of Jabulile Msiya, Nonsikelelo Mafa and Nceba Mazongolo.
They were with Magaqa during the shooting.
In his admission, Ngcengwa implicated other people who have not been charged. His co-accused are Sbonelo Myeza and Mbulelo Mpofana.
The fourth accused, Mlungisi Ncalane, who was subsequently declared unfit to stand trial, is currently in a psychiatric facility.
NPA spokesperson Natasha Ramkisson-Kara says, “The court found Ncengwa guilty and based on his admissions and convicted him accordingly. The case against him was remanded to the 30th of June 2025. The case against the other two accused will return to court on the 19th of June 2025 for the new indictment to be served against him.”
