The bail application of a 29-year-old man accused of raping and impregnating an 11-year-old girl is expected to resume at the Boksburg Magistrate’s Court, east of Johannesburg today.

Last week, the court last week ruled that it would only grant media permission to record audio and not film the court proceedings of the case due to a late application.

The girl, who is now four months pregnant, was allegedly raped by the accused in December last year.

The 29-year-old suspect, who’s a distant family friend to the victim’s family, has been in custody since his arrest last month.

Upon noticing changes in her daughter’s body, the victim’s mother found out about the ordeal.

The forty-eight-year-old previously revealed that she didn’t want the perpetrator to be granted bail, stating the suspect is a flight risk and should remain in custody until the trial begins.

The victim’s family claims that this is not the first time the accused has raped the minor.

It is alleged that the abuse started when the young girl was only six years old and then happened again last December.

DNA tests are yet to determine whether the suspect is indeed the perpetrator.
