Former Public Enterprises Minister Dr Malusi Gigaba will this morning appear in the High Court in Johannesburg for the formal enrolment of his case.
The process involves placing the matter on the court roll for hearing.
Gigaba will appear alongside former Transnet executives Brian Molefe, Siyabonga Gama, Thamsanqa Jiyane and Anoj Singh.
Their case relates to alleged corruption in the procurement of Transnet’s multi-billion-rand locomotives.
Gigaba’s lawyer Nicholas Kourie says today’s appearance forms part of the pre-trial hearings.
“The matter has been transferred to the Johannesburg High Court, where it will be dealt with in the ordinary course. This is not a trial. The court will manage the process going forward, including ancillary pre-trial matters, which include but are not limited to, issues relating to representations, request for further particulars and any other pre-trial issues. Dr Gigaba maintains his innocence and continues to respect the authority of the court. He will address the matter fully in the appropriate forum and at the appropriate stage of the court process.”
