Malema won’t unite with MKP, Shivambu says they will unite voters

Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) Leader Julius Malema has accused uMkhonto weSizwe Party (MKP) Leader Jacob Zuma of being pretentious about his call for black unity.

This follows Zuma’s longstanding call for unity amongst black and like-minded parties.

In its formative stages, the MKP worked with the EFF and formed the Progressive Caucus in Parliament. But the relations of the two parties soured with the departure of the EFF’s former Deputy President Floyd Shivhambu, who is now the MKP’s Secretary-General together with Dali Mpofu, Mzawanele Manyi and Advocate Busisiwe Mkhwebane, among others.

Malema brands the MKP as his enemy saying he will never work with a party that seeks to destroy the EFF.

“There is an old man in Natal called Zuma, who says he wants unity. We will never unite with Zuma who wants to kill the EFF. We will never unite with the MK that exists to destroy the EFF. Whether Trump says the same things about the two of us, we don’t care. We must never be tempted to unite with the agents who want to destroy the EFF. If Zuma wants unity of black people, why did he form the MK when there was EFF because when you form a new party you are already dividing people. There is no unity that they are talking about. They are pretentious about it. Zuma is about himself and about his family, that’s why he went to form that spaza-shop,” says Malema.

But former EFF Deputy President, now MK Party Secretary General Floyd Shivhambu is unyielding, saying if some party leaders don’t want unity with his party, what matters for them is the voters not leaders.

“Comrades, don’t worry about leaders of black political parties that say they don’t want unity with MK. We are going to unite voters. Leave them alone. We have already started in KZN. This unity that we are asking for, we are not begging it. We are demanding unity of black people and if leaders don’t want to unite, we are going to unite voters. Our people know what they want and our people can see that these are charlatans,” says Shivambu.
