The Ad Hoc Committee probing allegations of criminal infiltration, corruption and political interference in the country’s criminal justice system under way at Parliament in Cape Town.
Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) leader Julius Malema says critical people are not being called to testify before the Ad Hoc Committee probing allegations of criminal infiltration, corruption and political interference in the country’s criminal justice system underway at Parliament in Cape Town.
Speaking during an interview on SABC News on Thursday, Malema says they are going to ask for the committee to be extended.
He questions why Deputy National Commissioner General Francinah Vuma and former Crime Intelligence head Richard Mdluli have not been called to give evidence.
“Why wasn’t General Vuma not called after she wrote explosive documentation that shows how Minister (Bheki) Cele was interfering in the procurement in the police, how the PPEs were given to companies that are not qualifying, she was not called, and why is Richard Mdluli not called? His name was there for a very long time.”
“The man who is at the centre of crippling crime intelligence in South Africa and using the slush fund for the benefit of politicians and concubines. There is a witness that came there and said that. He even hired his girlfriend in the Eastern Cape crime intelligence and said that ‘nobody can do anything about that’.”
He adds: “So this is a character, even if he is out of the police, he is still a South African citizen. This is a type of character that needs to be called, who was tapping on phones of people illegally without a Magistrate’s or a Judge’s approval, all those people who are critical are not being called.”
