Malema declares youth vote key to election success

Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) President Julius Malema has told hundreds of supporters that they must ensure that they persuade South Africa’s youth to vote in the local government elections. Malema was delivering the keynote address at the party’s Voter Registration Campaign at Ghandi Square on the doorstep of its Headquarters in Johannesburg.

Malema is also sponsoring a Private Member’s Bill in parliament to amend the Electoral Act to provide for the automatic registration of all South African citizens on the national voters roll upon reaching the age of 16.

“We want a new voters’ roll and that voters’ roll must be constituted by young people. Fellow fighters, out of 9 million people aged between 18 to 29, only 4.4 million were registered to vote in the 2024 national and provincial elections. That cannot be correct. We must make sure that those who are 17 from today are all going to be registered as long as they are going to turn 18 just before November so that they can remove this rotten government from power.”
