Parliament has invited Minister Solly Malatsi and the Communications and Digital Technologies Department to appear before it following his gazetted policy directive for the ICT sector.
Malatsi has gazetted proposed changes to the triple-BEE policies in the ICT sector.
This could pave the way for companies like billionaire businessman Elon Musk’s Starlink to invest in the country without complying with the 30 percent ownership regulation.
The meeting is set for Tuesday morning.
Parliament’s Portfolio Committee on Communications and Digital Technologies says Malatsi’s gazetted directives appear to be in contravention of the Electronic Communications Act.
